First launch takes a while — is that normal?
Yes. The bundled scientific packages (numpy, pandas, scipy, matplotlib, Pillow, OpenCV, MLX and others) are installed offline the first time you open the app. This takes about a minute on most devices and only happens once.
Where are my scripts stored?
In the app's own folder on your device, visible in the Files app under On My iPhone → PythonForge. You can import and export files there, or from the editor's file menu.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No account is required, ever. Python, the editor, the debugger, notebooks and all bundled packages work fully offline. Only three things need a network: installing additional packages from PyPI, AI chat, and Git push/pull.
How do I install another package?
Open the package manager, type the exact PyPI package name and install it. Packages that need to compile C extensions on iOS may fail — this is a limitation of running on a mobile device rather than a subscription paywall.
Does AI chat cost anything extra?
No. There is no subscription and no in-app purchase. AI chat uses your own API key (with your own provider billing) or a local model such as Ollama on your own network, and it is optional.
Scripts stop when I lock the screen. Can I keep them running?
PythonForge uses an audio background mode so scripts survive app switching; on iOS, a locked screen may still suspend long-running work. For long jobs, keep the app in the foreground or in Picture-in-Picture mode.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email minfei1967@outlook.com with the device model, iOS version, the script that failed, and the full traceback if there is one. Screenshots help.
